SURFING IN GRAN CANARIA
The most unique geographical characteristic of the island is its round shape. This provides travelling surfers with a choice of coasts that will work under a variety of wind/swell conditions.
From Novemebr to February powerful north atlantic ground swells unleash their power on the many world-class reefs and beaches located between the capital of Las Palmas in the North West to Galdar in the North East. The capital of Las Palmas has the largest surf population on the island, has lot’s of surf shops and is home one of the most INFAMOUS waves in the Canary Islands – El Confital.
The west coast is rumoured to have some epic waves and if you spend some time exploring the island you will score some good quality un-crowded waves.
The southern coast offers a complete contrast to the north and mainly comprises of mellow beach breaks.
