KITESURFING HOLIDAYS IN MOROCCO

Al-Mamlaka al-Maghrebia, المملكة المغربية, Marokko, Morocco, Maroc, Marokkó, Marocco, Marrocos, Marrueco or Marocko or whatever you call it… Morocco is the ultimate getaway for European kitesurfers looking for good reliable wind.

Essaouira must be Morocco’s windiest city with winds ranging from 25-35 knots just about every day in summer and 20-30 knots in the winter with waves. So for wave riders winter is a great time to visit. Essaouira bay is a huge sandy beach. No shore break and the wind is side-shore from the right. Upwind you have flat water conditions, in the middle of the bay, choppy ‘bump-n-jump’ stuff and downwind (in the curve of the bay) wave riding conditions.

Sidi Kouki and Moulay are also epic spots that also work during the winter months as the winds come from the south. These are generally intermediate to advanced kitesurfing spots that can be awesome on the day.

Sidi Kouki lies about 20 km south of Essaouira the wind side-off from the right, several beach breaks to challenge wave riders and usually the wind is 10 knots stronger than in Essaouira bay.

Moulay Bouzerktoun lies around 20 km North of Essaouira and is also refered to as «THE African wave Spot» Moulay has a small beach and reef. Bottom is a mix of rocks and sand. Wind is side-on from the right and always 5 knots stronger than in Essaouira Bay.

Yeah, but where in the world is it?

Morocco is highlighted in red on the map below. The lighter red area on the map shows Western Sahara, most of which is administered by Morocco as its ‘Southern Provinces’. Its sovereignty, however, is currently in dispute.
