Our surf school, surf guides and accommodation are located in the picturesque coastal village of Loredo in the Ribamontan al Mar area of Cantabria. The village lies across the bay from the historic and capital city of the region Santander. This area is blessed with miles of golden sandy beaches/coves and lies in the green foothills of the ‘Picos de Europa’ a towering mountain range that seems to sweep western Cantabria towards the sea. The water is clean and the atmosphere is great. This is the birthplace of Spanish Surfing and our established school is run by local surfer Mario and his father «Meco» a pioneer of surfing in Spain and a local legend.

Late spring, summer and autumn are ideal times to visit as the surf is consistent and the climate is pleasent, becoming warmer during the summer months. The natural sandy beach offers a variety of peaks to suit all levels of surfers. The beach offers a good range of facilities for locals and tourists. The prices are per person and based on 3 nights accommodation + 3 days surfing + airport transfers (Santader). All prices are quoted in Euros (EUR).

DATES & AVAILABILITY

The Surf School is open from March to October and places are subject to availability at time of booking. This coastline receives enough swell during this period especially for beginners and intermediates, however for more experienced surfers we recommend Spring and Autumn as the surf is generally bigger and more challenging.

The 3 Star Hotel was built and opened in 2004 and although modern in design it still pays homage to the traditional Cantabrian architecture. The hotel is located in the edge of the village only a short walk away from the beach, the surf, the village centre and local amenities.

The hotel comprises of 38 rooms, spread over 3 floors. There are single, double, twin and triple rooms available to guests. All rooms have private en-suite bathrooms and some are equipped with hydro-massage showers. The hotel is owned and managed by a local family who will help make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The hotel is also very popular with people learning to surf which creates a nice vibe and atmosphere.

The hotel is set in it’s own grounds and has a private outdoor swimming pool and terraced area. There is also ample off road private parking.

Surf School & Surf Lessons

The Loredo Surf School was setup in 2002 by local surfer Mario and since then it has earned it’s reputation as being one of the best schools in the Cantabria area. Surfing has been part of family life since the early 60’s when Marios father «Meco» started surfing. Not only is he a local surfing hero, he is also one of Spains pioneers of surfing. What makes this surf school special is the history and amount of years surfing knowledge that Mario and Meco collectively offer to their clients. Now in his 70’s «Meco» still surfs on a daily basis and he loves nothing more than to help Mario with the surf shcool and share his passion and stories from the 60’s onwards with clients! If that doesn’t inspire you to surf then nothing will!

The surf school is accredited by the Cantabrian & Spanish Surfing Federation. The Surf Instructors are all qualified via the Cantabrian Surfing Federation (FCS) and all have the necessary skills and patience to help you progress in a safe but fun enviroment at your own pace. The coaching is specifically aimed at those who have never surfed before or those who have already taken some some lessons but feel they need to improve further. Surfing is progressive and there is always something new to be experienced and learnt!

For safety reasons and to ensure you get the attention you need on dry land and in the water, the Surf Lessons have a low student to instructor ratio. All students are placed with an instructor who specialize in teaching at a particular level.

All the equipment used by the Surf School is specifically designed for beginners and intermediates with safety being the key factor.

Beginners will use softdeck boards specifically designed for both stability and safety. Intermediates will use Epoxy boards which provide a good blend of stability, manouverability and performance. Custom boards are available for more experienced surfers who are already comfortable riding a higher performance board. The instructors will select a board suitable for your size, weight and ability.
