THE ITACARÉ SURFING & CAPOEIRA EXPERIENCE

Capoeira: In the middle of 16th century, African slaves who were brought to Brazil by the Portugese were banned from practising any kind of martial arts or developing any fighting skills. The idea being that this would make them easier to control and dominate. This restriction only served to strengthen the slaves resolve and led them to disguise their martial art and that, very briefly, is how 'Capoeira' was born. Capoeira is a fusion between folk dance, martial arts, energy release and body control. This is a rare opportunity to learn one of the most controvercial martial arts disciplines in history, in the place where it was born. It's a huge understatement to say that Capoeira is an excellent way to improve your surfing.

Surfing: Learn how to surf or improve your surfing skills in Itacaré. With a variety of waves ranging from gentle beach breaks to big, hollow waves breaking over coral reefs. Surfing is not easy to learn and you will always have room to improve, however we are confident that with the combination of the warm waters, our excellent surf material and the efforts of our instructors you will learn how to ride waves or drastically improve your surfing before you leave Itacaré.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Capoeira in 2008

There are now three Capoeira schools in Itacaré so from January 2008 we will no longer schedule classes in advance.
We think it is better for you to check out the schools and teachers yourself when you get here and then decide where to go. Lesson rates depend on time of year and number of classes taken so we will be unable to quote you for these.
